I hold her at night
To share the warmth that I hope to generate

I hugged her last night
Before she closed her eyes to sleep
I told her that I will always love her
And that it was just the two of us now
She said “Mummy, I love you too”
“And Daddy will be here soon”
I closed my eyes, holding back the tears
And as lovingly as I could

I came home from work
She was about to fall off to sleep
But she got on her feet and ran to me
She hugged me and kissed me
